On July 7th the Chinooks had their AKC National Specialty at the Tacoma Kennel Club dog show in Puyallup, Washington. I was show chair for this show and I had a couple dogs entered. It was great to see some friends I have not seen for a while and to meet new friends. A few potential Chinook owners also came to meet the breed and talk to breeders and some judges came to watch, examine, and learn more about the breed. Results and judges comments follow the pictures.</div>

One of the things I love about the breed is how peaceful they are milling together. A few playbows happened but we don't need to be concerned about keeping the dogs away from each other.</div>

Judges Comments:<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<b><span style="color: white; font-family: "inherit",serif; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;">Both the
Sweeps Judge ( Mr. Gary Dunlop) and the Breed Judge (Mr. Lee Herr) had some
positive comments on the breed and also some constructive comments on how we
can improve. I was very pleased with their comments and felt they had a good
grasp of the Standard and also our struggles as a small breed. All the judges,
including those ringside, raved about the conformation, substance and movement
on the Veteran Bitch. They felt she was very close to what we are looking
for in our females. The Sweeps and Breed Judges liked the movement,
angles, and topline of the puppy bitch showing but thought she still looked
quite immature. The Judge liked the overall look and topline of the Winner's
dog. He liked the fore chest, substance, and coat on the Winner's bitch and
it was her prominent </span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;">pro-sternum</span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-family: "inherit",serif; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;">, which is missing in many of the Chinooks that caused him to put
her up over the Winner's Dog for Breed. He thought both Winners moved well but
thought the Breed winner looked a little more powerful. There was praise
for the fitness of the dogs present as the judge stated he really disliked
putting hands on a working dog and having it feel like jelly. Both judges
commented on how, even though this was the largest group they have seen at a
show, they looked more of a cohesive breed than in the past. I daresay a
lot of this is because most of the Chinooks present were closely related! I
passed on the comments from the judges on each </span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;">individual</span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-family: "inherit",serif; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;"> dogs to the owners. Overall the biggest criticism from both
judges was about the chests and how some lacked the width and/or depth/ and or
prosternum wanted in a powerful sledge dog. The breed judge also
commented on how he sees some Chinooks that were more square than desired but
warned us that some of our Chinooks have the proper length but it is because
the dogs have a very long loin with a shorter ribcage and this can cause
weakness, especially as the dog ages. The last criticism was over the lack of
proper coat in some of the Chinooks- primarily coats that are too short and/or
without the noticeable ruff. These are all issues that are prevalent
across the breed and breeders of aware of but with so few litters a year and
diversity, health, and temperament a greater concern for many breeders, it may
be a long road to get them </span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;">consistently</span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-family: "inherit",serif; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;"> improved. We talked about the struggle to get people
interested in breeding to increase our number which will better allow us to
better </span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;">address</span></b><b><span style="color: white; font-family: "inherit",serif; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;"> these

<b><span style="color: white; font-family: "inherit",serif; font-size: 10.5pt; mso-themecolor: background1;">It was a

I did not think losing any dog could hurt worse than when I lost my dog Chili last year but Faethe dying has been a huge punch in the gut. I did not realize how much she meant to me, how much she did for me, and how much she was a part of my life. She was, simply, the best dog I ever owned. She was a good show dog, a good hunting dog, a wonderful household helper, a good obedience dog, a great 4H dog, and a loving therapy dog. Faethe was not only an incredible ambassador for the breed but for dogs in general. She never had a cross word for any person. She had 100% trust in humanity- I think that is why she loved everyone and was never afraid. She liked other dogs but LOVED puppies. Even in her old age, she would take any youngster under her wing. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Faethe was a very natural retriever and took to bird work easily. She LOVED the loud bang of the gun because that meant birds were going to fall from the sky. That transferred over to a lot of happy excitement over fireworks. Her happiness over these loud noises was a great influence on my other dogs who have not had any problems with the loud bangs of the 4th of July or neighbors having target practice.</div>

Faethe taking off after a bird. If it was in an open field, a thicket of thorny blackberries or in the water, she would get the bird. She may be sweet and kind but when it came to retrieving, she was quite determined.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Faethe LOVED LOVED kids. She was a loaner dog for 4H and was used by kids who did not have dogs of their own. She happily allowed peewees to drag her around the ring and if they wanted to take her for the weekend to practice or compete in fair then she settled into their homes like she always lived there. She trusted and listened to anyone who asked anything of her. </div>

Here is Faethe snuggling with a visiting Irish Water Spaniel puppy named Demi who is now all grown up and has had puppies of her own. I have fostered countless Water Spaniel puppies who came to my house for a few days to a few weeks ( and one time almost a year) to learn manners and confidence from Faethe and my other dogs.</div>

Sometimes a very nice, obedient dog can be a bit boring but not Faethe. She had personality. She found this doll head in the woods while hiking one day and carried it all over for years. I would not see it for weeks and then she would get in the mood and track it down. She especially liked to pull it out and show it off when I had guests. It never failed to get a reaction!</div>

Faethe taking a break from fetch and getting ready to find kindling for the fire. I showed her a stick and told her to fetch it up and she went out and brought stick after stick to the fire pit for me. She was a great helper. She would go out and get all the toys out of the yard for me before I mowed and if I was carrying a load of laundry and dropped a sock or cloth, she would pick it up for me. She was a great lazy persons dog as I could ask her to get the remote for me if I plunked down on the couch and forgot to grab it off the tv stand. She would get bowls, bones, and toys out of the back of crates for me so I did not have to crawl in myself. She would have been an incredible mobility assist dog or service dog. </div>

Faethe may not have been a flashy or showy dog but she was very sound and correct and she looked better and better as the years went on. After she finished her Championship as a youngster, I rarely showed her except for once a year at the Irish Spaniel Club of Puget Sound specialty that was held at my place of employment. Here she is winning Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed out of the Veterans class! She was always so young looking and had a lot of life in her- people were shocked she was a veteran, they always thought she was a puppy. </div>

Faethe was never happier than when she had puppies. She just adored being a mom and when any of my other girls had puppies, she would produce milk and help nurse them as well. Faethe had three litters and her pups inherited her very sweet and kind disposition. </div>

Faethe playing frisbee with my co worker's dogs. This was a few short months before she passed over the bridge. It was not too long after this that her leg became incapacitated and she could no longer play ball or go after birds. Even in pain she would have fetched anything thrown for her so I just kept her away from any other dog's retrieving. It was torture for her not to be able to play fetch. </div>

The worst part of loving dogs is losing dogs. I have had to write memorials in the past and each time the words have flowed out of me. I was able to capture the essence of what made that dog special to me but this time I find myself at quite a loss. How do you capture the spirit of a dog that was such a force of nature? A dog that never gave in to anything or anyone, even me. Loving Chili was like loving a wild animal- unlike any other dog I have owned, I know her love for me was her choice. Every time she listened to me, it was because she decided to- you could not force Chili to do anything- she was afraid of nothing. You couldn't bribe her either- trying to offer her a treat to perform a task resulted in a look of disgust. As a dog trainer, she humbled me like no dog has ever humbled me. I know her success in obedience, under harness, and in the show ring was not affected one whit by my ability in training but was solely Chili's own will and desire to win at life. In spite of her intelligence, fearlessness, lack of respect for the will of humanity, Chili was quite a social dog. She liked attention- it was a way for people to pay homage to her- but she did not require it for her happiness. She liked children most of all and was very comfortable around other dogs. Her death leaves a huge hole not just in my heart but in the world.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Chili had attitude from the moment she was born. Her breeder had her picked out for me as soon as she started shooting around the whelping box. At 8 weeks, Chili went to stay with some long time Chinook breeders until I could meet them at a dog show a month later to pick her up. They contacted me the day after they picked her up to prepare me for what I was getting. They said she was the smarted dog they had ever seen and calling her a handful was a vast understatement. As soon as I met her, I knew we were going to have quite the journey together.</div>

Chili with her longtime pal and future sire of her first litter, Brett. Chili was a fast and powerful sled dog but could not run solo lead. She was smart enough but her fearlessness lead her to make some questionable decisions, like trying to lead the team over a pretty sheer cliff and into water. The other dogs would follow her anywhere- no matter what they thought of the obstacle in front of them, Chili's will instantly convinced them they could just run down the mountain side and could swim across the river dragging the sled. Putting her with a more "reasonable" dog created an enjoyable sled team.</div>

All of these ribbons were from one weekend of Chili showing in conformation and competing in a weight pull competition. Chili pulled over 2000lbs and even then I pulled her from the match because I did not want her to overdo it. I did not trust her to quit before she hurt herself. In a future pull match, she would pull over 2500lbs. She was strong in more than just will!!</div>

Chili loved kids and was very tolerant. <div style="text-align: center;">
For her third and final litter, Chili decided she wanted them born in the dryer. When I put a stop to that, she decided she would have them outside. She always wanted to have her pups outside and would lie in the whelping box refusing to cooperate in having her pups and then would pop one out as soon as I took her out to potty. She had puppies all over my yard and porch but rarely in the whelping box. </div>

Chili was an easy breeder, an easy whelper, and a wonderful mom. She loved having puppies and I am glad to see her pups grow up and produce litters of their own for a number of Chinook breeders. It makes her passing easier knowing she lives on through her pups, grandpups, and great grandpups.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Chili's first litter was my NFL Quarterback litter. The pups were sweet, wonderful dogs and this picture from the litter was my Christmas greeting for many years.</div>

Reine ( aka Moonsong Small Wonder) is a daughter of Chili and Jiggles- two wonderful Chinooks who are/were very special to me. Jiggles died last year so I am happy to see his offspring go on and Chili is a fit and happy senior Chinook- still full of life and giving me fits with her shenanigans. This litter is extra special because it signals the start of a brand new breeding kennel. The Chinook breed is small and still endangered. It is a blessing when someone decides to contribute to the continuation of the breed by breeding. You can visit Spook Nook Chinooks at the link below to learn more about the parents and follow the pups:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am so sad to announce that Katsuk ( GRCH Hurricane Katsuk Rainsong CGC TT TDI) has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She fought very hard to stay and she was not wanting to go but her body just could not fight anymore. She was finally recovering from surgery after having several cancerous breasts removed when she developed pneumonia and that proved too much for her to overcome. Katsuk was not only a gorgeous, sweet, powerful dog who was loved by many but she was also the foundation bitch of Moonsong Chinooks. She started me on my way as a breeder of Chinooks and her pups and grandpups have gone on to produce litters for several other kennels, both established and new. She was exactly what I was looking for in a female Chinook. She was large and powerful but still athletic. She had quite a journey before ending up as a permanent member of my pack and touched a lot of people on that journey. She was truly one of a kind.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gPL2Q-8L4cQ/VF_klQKNirI/AAAAAAAAET8/7JDhlEDhr0Y/s1600/comingback.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gPL2Q-8L4cQ/VF_klQKNirI/AAAAAAAAET8/7JDhlEDhr0Y/s1600/comingback.jpg" height="259" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Katsuk could do it all! She was a wonderful wheel dog on my sled team. She had great power and could really pull but she could also last all day. Her pups and grandpups have also proven themselves in harness.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a6iKv9DFGIQ/VF_idkDyABI/AAAAAAAAESg/fxNdOfIdsIA/s1600/Katsuk-BoB.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a6iKv9DFGIQ/VF_idkDyABI/AAAAAAAAESg/fxNdOfIdsIA/s1600/Katsuk-BoB.jpeg" height="228" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Katsuk was a very successful show dog and with limited showing was in Top Ten for her breed and produced Top Ten pups. She easily finished her Championship and Grand Championship. She did not really like to show but did it with a tolerant attitude because I wanted to show her off. She had an amazing chest and bone which is commonly lacking in this breed. She really was quite a figure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-djNiThqfYos/VF_jXqe1tLI/AAAAAAAAETk/e5f-83AXEjg/s1600/premiershow6mos.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-djNiThqfYos/VF_jXqe1tLI/AAAAAAAAETk/e5f-83AXEjg/s1600/premiershow6mos.jpg" height="232" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Katsuk produced some wonderful litters for me. In her first litter she produced one of my favorite of her pups, Marshall ( CH Moonsong Onondaga Lawman - the middle pup shown above) She also produced Jiggles (GRCH Moonsong Mukilteo Bluejay- to the right of Marshall) who I kept and became quite special to me. One of her female pups from this litter went on to produce litters for Frontier Chinooks and the other pups went on to become very cherished members of families all over the country. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g0zXJT9YVuc/VF_jhqLF6MI/AAAAAAAAETs/Nx5du0I8I4c/s1600/2weeks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-g0zXJT9YVuc/VF_jhqLF6MI/AAAAAAAAETs/Nx5du0I8I4c/s1600/2weeks.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Katsuk's Jungle book litter was a nice rainbow of pups that turned into service dogs, sled dogs, weight pull dogs, rally dogs and, of course loving pets.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YCDsEvCagzI/VF_rk2bpHgI/AAAAAAAAEVI/6Po7MZ3QYcg/s1600/7weekmompounce.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YCDsEvCagzI/VF_rk2bpHgI/AAAAAAAAEVI/6Po7MZ3QYcg/s1600/7weekmompounce.jpg" height="320" width="269" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Katsuk produced a singleton pup named Watson that grew into quite the stunning boy who now watches over his human "sister" in Oregon</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JT1ICcItor4/VF_j8PXlLoI/AAAAAAAAET0/JUyHpaifq5Q/s1600/DSCF8051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JT1ICcItor4/VF_j8PXlLoI/AAAAAAAAET0/JUyHpaifq5Q/s1600/DSCF8051.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Katsuk's final litter produced two pups- Wink, who is with the Moonsong pack and will hopefully carry on her dam's legacy and Nod who is well loved by his family in Oregon. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZkXKJxahPM/VF_iXuQmuRI/AAAAAAAAESI/Oyzlu0oE31o/s1600/08.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZkXKJxahPM/VF_iXuQmuRI/AAAAAAAAESI/Oyzlu0oE31o/s1600/08.jpg" height="261" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I first met Katsuk when she was an 8 week old pup. I hitched a ride with her breeder Joyce when I came from Florida to Washington for a new job. Joyce on her way to Washington for a dog show so we drove together. I was offered one of the pups from the litter, as Joyce owed me a pup but I declined as I already had a new pup, Hyak, joining my pack and with a new job and only a temporary place to live, I was not in a position to take a pup. The pups were evaluated at the show and it was determined the only red tawny pup was last pick because of her very bulky, awkward appearance. The other pups were quite well built and moved well- miss tawny could barely walk without falling over and while she was quite large, she looked like spare parts. Ginger Corley, of Rain Mountain Chinooks, had taken two other pups as her picks but wanted to give miss tawny a chance to mature before removing her from the gene pool as a pet so she found a foster home for her in California until Joyce could figure out what to do with her permanently. At 6 months old, she came back to Washington and when Ginger and I saw her, our jaws dropped. She had come together and turned into one of the most gorgeous Chinook girls we had ever seen. She was already the size of most adult females with a large chest and larger bone. She looked like she could pull the heaviest sled through the largest drifts but she was active and tireless and moved beautifully. I wanted her but I was still not in a position to keep another dog so I found a home that was willing to keep her intact. She lived with Anne for a couple years and Anne put a Therapy Dog International title on her and took her to schools and nursing homes where she could share her loving temperament with everyone. Anne also brought her out to shows where she quickly finished her Grand. Family issues forced Anne to give her back to me but I had recently been contacted by a woman looking for a service dog and thought Katsuk would be a perfect fit. She became a mobility assist dog for Marie and would also let her know when her blood sugar became high/low. She pulled a cart for her and carried groceries and braced Marie to help her stand up/walk. When it came time for her to retire from these duties, Katsuk came back to me and one of her grandpups took over as a service dog for Marie. Finally Katsuk came to Moonsong Chinooks permanently to retire and live out her life. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
She loved to swim and when a lake or river was not available, a kiddie pool would do. She loved to submerge herself under the water until only her nose stuck out. She looked like a hairy Hippo</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just a few short weeks before Katsuk died, we went to visit with Frontier Chinooks who had a litter of pups that were great grandpups of Katsuk. While there we took a 4 generation photo of Katsuk, her pup Lilah, lilah's pup Kasute, and Kasute's pup Miss Pink. 4 generations of beautiful girls!</div>

<div align="center">
One of Katsuk's first shows as a pup with her brother Malibu (middle) and sister Cheyenne (left). I knew then how special she was then but I did not know how important she would be to my life in Chinooks or how many other people she would influence. Godspeed Katsuk- I know Jiggles is happy to see you at the Rainbow Bridge as is UConn and Pharaoh and the other Chinooks that have gone before. You will be greatly missed by those you have left behind.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Frontier Lady Luck aka Bianca, is expecting a litter mid November. This is Bianca's first litter and though it is officially a "Moonsong" litter, the pups will be born and raised at her custodial owner's house in Seattle. I am very grateful Nancy and her family agreed to have a litter with Bianca. Bianca is a wonderful girl, very beautiful and sweet. She reminds me a lot of her sire, Brett - Springcreek's Lambeau Leap</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CG86sTt2fcQ/VF_enB13raI/AAAAAAAAERk/tCN_P_R6EqI/s1600/DSCN1132.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CG86sTt2fcQ/VF_enB13raI/AAAAAAAAERk/tCN_P_R6EqI/s1600/DSCN1132.JPG" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bianca has nice proportions, a nice coat, and beautiful color but her best feature is her sweetness. She loves kids and loves getting pets.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T136fggu3IA/VF_fEc6pGbI/AAAAAAAAERs/fBPqIv5wNww/s1600/dec10d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T136fggu3IA/VF_fEc6pGbI/AAAAAAAAERs/fBPqIv5wNww/s1600/dec10d.jpg" height="198" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The sire of this litter is one of the sweetest male Chinooks I know! Jack is great with kids and other dogs and is quite athletic. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sIrukJ_p09U/VF_fEWwtg5I/AAAAAAAAERw/sSx3KhFo9bI/s1600/dec10h.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sIrukJ_p09U/VF_fEWwtg5I/AAAAAAAAERw/sSx3KhFo9bI/s1600/dec10h.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
Jack also has a very sweet face!</div>

I am looking forward to seeing these pups.</div>

Raksha has taken time off from service dog duty to have a litter. On feb. 28th, right in the middle of the day, Raksha presented us with 6 wonderful Chinook pups. Sadly, one little boy died soon after birth but the other 5 are doing well. Raksha is a great mom. Raksha is coowned by Moonsong Chinooks but this is a SpringCreek litter- the first one in over 8 years!! There are 3 females and 2 males. Individual pictures will be posted soon.</div>

I am beyond devastated that Jiggles, GRCH Moonsong Mukilteo Bluejay CGC died last night at the young age of 8. Last week, he went to the vet for a urinary problem and it was discovered on ultrasound that he had hemangiosarcoma throughout his entire body, affecting all his organs. The vet could not believe he was alive, much less showing no signs of illness except a weak urine stream. This was a shock as he has always been so healthy and fit. Jiggles had showed typical Chinook stoicism and kept up a brave front but declined quickly last week and last night gave up the fight. He was an amazing Chinook, a loyal companion, a strong sled dog, a successful show dog, and a steady, friendly ambassador for the breed. Many people will miss him and mourn his passage but none more than me. I put a tribute page on his blog and I hope you look at it and help me celebrate the life of a truly great dog. Goodbye Jiggles, I love you.<br /><a href="http://moonsongjiggles.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #0072c6;">http://moonsongjiggles.blogspot.com</span></a> <br />

Raksha ( Moonsong Law of the Jungle) is pregnant!! Raksha was the only female in my "Jungle Book" litter of 8. She went to live with Pam Chambers as a young pup and has been working as her service dog for a few years. This litter will be raised by Pam and will carry her SpringCreek kennel name. I will get a puppy back from this litter and will help Pam place the pups. Raksha is a bold girl and tough as nails but she is very sweet and loves attention. She especially loves kids. Her mate for this litter, Kodi ( Atholl Hurricane Nakoda Rain) is a real loving, sweet boy who also has a soft spot for kids. This litter should produce some really great family dogs as well as smart working dogs. The litter will be born near the end of February. A pedigree of the litter can be seen here: <a href="http://www.chinookhealth.org/fivegen.asp?ID=2202">http://www.chinookhealth.org/fivegen.asp?ID=2202</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Honey aka Boreayl's The Bee's Knees, has been bred to Peter aka Moonsong Never Cry Wolf. I am very excited as Honey is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet and Peter is also one sweet dude. Both dogs work well under harness and have been frequent ambassadors for the breed at Pet Expos and Meet the Breeds where they are handled by hundreds of people a day. The pups should be beautiful, versatile Chinooks and I can't wait to see them!! Pups will be due late February. pedigree of the pups can be seen here: <a href="http://www.chinookhealth.org/fivegen.asp?ID=2057">http://www.chinookhealth.org/fivegen.asp?ID=2057</a> </div>

At 5 days old, my surviving singleton puppy from Gambler x Kila traveled 6 1/2 hours south to Oregon to join the Brownstone Chinook litter that is only 2 days older than she. The dam of that litter, Koyuk, was very accepting of Miss Silver and she is already benefitting from the competition to eat and the extra exercise and socialization that comes with siblings.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IeHzTTcX0zk/Ufw_YqaXI-I/AAAAAAAAD8Y/3mR_nDBNvpg/s1600/silver2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IeHzTTcX0zk/Ufw_YqaXI-I/AAAAAAAAD8Y/3mR_nDBNvpg/s320/silver2.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Koyuk is much like her aunt Cornelia Marie and her granddam Chili- a natural mother. This breed seems to be very pack oriented in terms of puppy raising. My Chinooks (and my Water Spaniel) often do communal raising of pups and all lactate and feed pups- no matter who the dam is. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X9DF4UqYYKs/Ufw_aF-MvWI/AAAAAAAAD8k/2gHiRzvNn-E/s1600/silver3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X9DF4UqYYKs/Ufw_aF-MvWI/AAAAAAAAD8k/2gHiRzvNn-E/s320/silver3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q1QMbkq2LMI/UfcrKp3_VkI/AAAAAAAAD7I/g4D1-hZUaSE/s1600/DSCN0698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q1QMbkq2LMI/UfcrKp3_VkI/AAAAAAAAD7I/g4D1-hZUaSE/s320/DSCN0698.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Kila had a very difficult pregnancy and an even more difficult delivery. After going into labor, she produced 3 stillborn pups. Labor then stopped. After a few hours we were off to the vet for an emergency csection. On the way to the vet, Kila developed eclampia/hypocalcemia and could not even stand up. IV calcium and a csection later, Kila produced 3 more pups- one stillborn and 2 live females.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gCZXAWDehCw/UfcrLhHtKfI/AAAAAAAAD7U/RGMVD3nF_Bo/s1600/DSCN0699.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gCZXAWDehCw/UfcrLhHtKfI/AAAAAAAAD7U/RGMVD3nF_Bo/s320/DSCN0699.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Kila with Miss Silver and Miss B&T. Miss B&T was only 6.5 ounces at birth- tiny!!! She took a long time to revive after the csection but seemed vigorous the first two days.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Overnight day 3, Miss B&T started to fade and despite our best efforts she passed away. </div>

Faethe produced 8 beautiful pups on July 17th. There are 6 males and two females. Pups are doing great. <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wmC8BFxPVH0/UciUXcx5tJI/AAAAAAAAD00/HLyPcmIQ2_8/s1600/nakedsparkle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wmC8BFxPVH0/UciUXcx5tJI/AAAAAAAAD00/HLyPcmIQ2_8/s320/nakedsparkle.jpg" width="255" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am very sad to announce Tullibardine Red Sparkle crossed the Rainbow Bridge weds, june 19th after a long battle with kidney failure. Her whole body started giving out and when she started hiding under the porch away from me and the pack, I knew it was time. She passed very quickly and peacefully at the vets office. Sparkle did not join the Moonsong pack until later in life- she was 8- but she came in and joined our house like she had always been there. She bonded to my dogs and was almost instantly bonded to me. She loved me as much as the dogs born here and was very loyal, obedient and was very reliable off leash. she followed me everywhere but was quite sweet and friendly to strangers, especially children and loved other dogs. She was just an overall wonderful girl and a great ambassador for the Chinook breed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HDoShY2sq8c/UciUWXJwwrI/AAAAAAAAD0Q/bkpft7e773Q/s1600/1stdayhotel2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HDoShY2sq8c/UciUWXJwwrI/AAAAAAAAD0Q/bkpft7e773Q/s320/1stdayhotel2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is Sparkle lounging on the hotel bed the day I picked her up from a farm in South Dakota. She had ben boarded there for a day after some other Chinook owners transported her from Manitoba to Dakota. Sparkle is the belly up Chinook behind Mr. T-Bone who traveled down from Manitoba with Sparkle in order to live in Seattle. Obviously being uprooted from her home, traveling to another country and meeting new people and dogs did not really disturb Sparkle that much. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uPwYCXvzOR0/UciUW_fcwKI/AAAAAAAAD0c/JiMkXTmgVRQ/s1600/DSCF7172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uPwYCXvzOR0/UciUW_fcwKI/AAAAAAAAD0c/JiMkXTmgVRQ/s320/DSCF7172.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sparkle loved to lay out on the porch and soak up the sun and fresh air. She could look dignified but...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EIM--9HzRXg/UciUWjRyCPI/AAAAAAAAD0Y/X-16lih-EsE/s1600/DSCF8388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EIM--9HzRXg/UciUWjRyCPI/AAAAAAAAD0Y/X-16lih-EsE/s320/DSCF8388.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
...most of the time she was quite the goofball. She loved to play with the other dogs. Here she is wrestling and rolling around with Honey.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zDB-iICHPz8/UciUXKQEv1I/AAAAAAAAD0g/9reBNmV-0Ak/s1600/DSCF8389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zDB-iICHPz8/UciUXKQEv1I/AAAAAAAAD0g/9reBNmV-0Ak/s320/DSCF8389.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What a ham</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Sparkle had quite the Chinook smile. Just calling her "Miss Sparks" was enough to get her smiling. She had a great loving expression where she would close her eyes and smile and wiggle her butt and rub on me like a cat. She gave great little kisses</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RO3vjbdBiKE/UciUXqfRugI/AAAAAAAAD0s/ULe-0_TjpW0/s1600/harness.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="275" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RO3vjbdBiKE/UciUXqfRugI/AAAAAAAAD0s/ULe-0_TjpW0/s320/harness.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sparkle enjoyed working under harness but an xray showed an old broken hip that limited how much running she could do while pulling a lot of weight. She was able to scooter with the other dogs and do some sledding but weight pull was out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Sparkle took it upon herself to seduce a couple of my boys while having a silent heat soon after arriving at Moonsong Chinooks and produced a litter that included both purebred Chinooks and Saluki x Chinook crosses. Here she is relaxing with my Irish Water Spaniel who had a litter on the same day as Sparkle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sparkle had a very handsome face</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is Sparkle playing with Pagan- I should have seen trouble coming! He was only 8 months old but obviously willing and able to help Sparkle produce some Chalukis. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Sparkle was a good sized girl and very impressive in appearance and attitude in person.</div>

Sparkle with two of her pups playing in the field. She was a good mom and she never looked better than the several months following the birth of her pups. Motherhood was her happiest task and she helped care for other litters born at Moonsong Chinooks like they were her own- even lactating to help nurse.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Moonsong Cornelia Marie is going to be a mom! she will be very happy to have pups of her own after nursing the last two litters of pups I have had at the house, even though they were not hers! </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
At first she was a little intimidated by the size of her 'date' Sandhill Ranger...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KqTTGtFgJnM/UMalYuU-tcI/AAAAAAAADNk/OcBWnm9fnnM/s1600/corneliaranger2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KqTTGtFgJnM/UMalYuU-tcI/AAAAAAAADNk/OcBWnm9fnnM/s320/corneliaranger2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
...then she obviously got over her uncertainty and was very playful and flirty</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I visited the joint Frontier/Moonsong Chinooks litter last weekend and was blown away by the quality of these pups! I get two puppies back and I am at a complete loss as to which pups to take!! Rafferty and Lilah made amazing babies together!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Trying to shoot puppy pictures involves a lot of missed shots- Here is a great shot of Bliss' body but she is headless</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jcaM0UWPm6A/UAoJYUFtS8I/AAAAAAAAC_s/Pqfxdu-egFo/s1600/DSCF8840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jcaM0UWPm6A/UAoJYUFtS8I/AAAAAAAAC_s/Pqfxdu-egFo/s320/DSCF8840.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This shot captures Flare's awesome bone and substance but I again cut off the head!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y1J9-0ACqNc/UAoJa1IJ34I/AAAAAAAAC_0/r9y72zLtBEE/s1600/DSCF8841.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y1J9-0ACqNc/UAoJa1IJ34I/AAAAAAAAC_0/r9y72zLtBEE/s320/DSCF8841.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mr. Knight is the lightest boned of the boys! Not too shabby anyway </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Flare looks like a neckless body builder in this shot:-) He does indeed have a neck but it is hard to get pictures when he is constantly tossing toys all over! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Miss Sunshine looks a LOT like her grandma Katsuk in build and substance- here she is wondering how her Chihuahua housemate got up on the stool.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

CH Springcreek Lambeau Leap aka Brett (Favre) left this world much too soon this week at 7 years of age of a lung infection. He was born on 9/11/04 and brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. He was the sweetest dog and loved everyone. He was an amazing ambassador for the breed and was gentle with children. His sweet demeanor did not stop him from being a kick butt sled dog. He had a lot of natural drive to pull and worked for a living doing scooter and cart demos for dogscooter.com and chalosulky.com. He produced 3 wonderful litters who inherited his kindness and many also have his pulling ability. He was a big handsome dude and will be missed by many.</div>
